Citizen's/Police Advisory Committee

Established: At a Select Board meeting held on August 4, 2020.
Appointed By: The Town Administrator

Membership: Consists of nine (9) members as follows:

1 member student (college or high school), 1 member of law enforcement official (not employed by Town of Carver), 1 member of legal background, 1 member of academic professional, 1 member of former Carver government official, 4 residents at-large. It is encouraged that at least one or more members be of minority status - NO TERM DATE

To recommend and advocate to Police Department administration and Town officials improvements relative to practices and policies concerning race and implicit bias, addiction, mental health problems, domestic issues, and homelessness. 

The Committee will strive for a frank, but non-adversarial dialogue with the Police Department in the hope of achieving by-in by all stakeholders. Effort will be focused on promoting understanding between local police officers and residents of Carver, improving delivery of service and accountability, and reducing risk to both officers and those they encounter. Law enforcement training, techniques, and challenges confronting police officers in the performance of their duties will be examined.
