Board of Registrars

Appointed By: The Select Board

Massachusetts General Law mandates that every town have a Board of Registrars consisting of four members, one of which is the Town Clerk.  The three remaining members are appointed by the Select Board from lists submitted by the town committees of the two leading political parties.  The term of office is three years and shall be staggered so that one term expires each year. As nearly as possible, the members of the board shall represent the two leading political parties. The Town Clerk need not be enrolled in a political party.

The Registrars assist the Town Clerk’s office in promoting voter registration, maintaining the Voter Lists, being present at all Voter registration sessions, certifying the signatures on all nomination and petition papers, certifying absentee voter applications, conducting recounts and assisting in the preparation of the annual street list.
