Community Preservation Committee

Established: At ATM 5/22/06, Article #45.

Membership: Nine (9) voting members pursuant to MGL Chapter 44B. The composition of the committee. The appointment authority, and the term of office shall be as follows: 1 member of the Conservation Commission as designated by the Commission for a term of 3 years, 1 member of the Historical Commission as designated by the Commission for a term of 3 years, 1 member of the Planning Board as designated by the Board for a term of 3 years, 1 member of the Recreation Committee as designated by the Select Board for an initial term of 1 year and thereafter for a term of 3 years. 1 member of the Housing Authority as designated by the Authority for an initial term of 2 years and thereafter for a term of 3 years, 4 members to be appointed by the Select Board, 2 members to be appointed for a term of 1 year and thereafter for a term of 3 years, and 2 members to be appointed for a term of 1 year and thereafter for a term of 3 years, and 2 members to be appointed for a term of 2 years and therafter for a term of 3 years.

Purpose/Mission: This committee was established to administer the state's Community Preservation Act (CPA), which is "a smart growth tool that helps communities preserve open space and historic sites, created affordable housing, develop outdoor recreational facilites and generally preserve the character of the community. This committee is the initial sounding board for proposed projects. They review proposals, asks applicatns relevant questions, is open for public input and holds public informational meetings. In the end, the Town Meeting is required to approve or not any project deemed acceptable to the Committee.
